Pineapple is scientifically known as pineapple, with good taste and aromatic, pineapple is often used as a beverage and in the food processing industry. At present, the pineapple market is booming in EU countries. Germany, Italy and the UK are the largest consumers of pineapple in the EU. Since 2002, the pineapple import turnover of these markets has doubled although the number has increased by only 50%. In 2006, the EU imported 1.2 million tons of pineapple with a total value of EUR 839 million. Belgium is the largest pineapple importer in the EU. Secondly, the Netherlands is growing at an annual rate and it is likely that in the near future it will become the largest importer. Belgium and the Netherlands are the two largest importers in the EU, but the market for pineapple consumption in Belgium and the Netherlands is very small. These countries mainly play the role of trading, importing pineapples from developing countries and then exporting them back to other EU countries. Belgium imports 95% of the total pineapple and the Netherlands imports 70% from developing countries. Britain and France are the two countries that import pineapples directly from developing countries more than from other EU countries. In contrast, although Germany is the largest consumer of pineapple, it imported 70% of pineapple production from Belgium and the Netherlands in 2006.

Distribution channel:
Canned pineapple is becoming a popular product in the EU retail system. The introduction of fresh pineapples at major supermarkets has led to an increasing number of customers. Major retailers have a strong distribution network with major suppliers. The big pineapple distributors in the world are De Monte Fesh Produce of the EU, Dole Fresh Fruit Europe of Germany.
Supermarkets are not only a place for pineapple consumption but also for fruit and vegetable stores. Green markets also have a significant market share of imported fruit in many EU countries. These distribution channels mainly buy pineapples from importers and agents. They are the most potential business partners for exporters in developing countries. They have experience and knowledge of the world market and have strong relationships with suppliers and buyers. They can collaborate, help the suppliers find the best distribution method for their product. In addition to focusing on the domestic market, these importers are very active in exporting to other EU markets.

Most of the pineapple exporters in Vietnam said that this fruit export was favorable. Pineapple supply is stable, pineapple quality is quite equal, the processing plants operating at full capacity during the harvest. At present, our country mainly export pineapple in canned, canned form. Although pineapple is a popular crop in Vietnam, pineapple exports are still very limited compared to production. The main reason is that businesses do not have a flexible policy in purchasing and processing pineapple for export, do not know how to find partners have the ability to cooperate sustainably.

Therefore, businesses should have proper trade promotion policies, invest in technology, and focus on quality management so that they can develop pineapples bearing the Vietnamese brand name in the EU market.
